To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available with school
breakfast, Goochland County Public Schools is celebrating National School Breakfast Week
(NSBW) March 2-6, 2026. Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find
time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, GCPS offers nutritious school breakfasts, complete
with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day.
GCPS school nutrition employees and students are encouraged to show their enthusiasm for
school breakfast from March 2-6 as the district celebrates NSBW with special menus, activities,
and more.
“A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students are nourished and
ready to learn,” said Matthew Franklin, Director of Nutrition Services. “National School Breakfast
Week helps us educate parents and students about all the nutritious and delicious choices we
offer.”

✨ What an incredible evening at our first annual GCPS Future Forward Fest!
Last night, our schools came together to celebrate the innovation, creativity, and powerful learning happening across Goochland County Public Schools. From students showcasing projects like making music through coding, Heartwood Hotel stop motion, and Weather Reports created in Canva, to immersive experiences like robotics putt putt and an AI project using micro:bits to interpret sign language, the energy and excitement were truly inspiring. This is just a glimpse of the incredible work on display as well as the great things happening in our classrooms every day.
These projects highlighted learning experiences that were not only aligned to grade-level content standards and computer science standards, but also reflected the skills and dispositions outlined in the Profile of a Goochland Graduate, including creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem solving.
A huge thank you to our amazing Instructional Technology Coach team and School Library team for their leadership and support in bringing this event to life, and to Braise-N-Smoke for keeping everyone fueled throughout the evening.
We are incredibly grateful to the teachers and students who shared their learning and creativity, and to the families, administrators, and School Board members who came out to support and celebrate their work.
The pride, curiosity, and collaboration on display reminded us what’s possible when students are given opportunities to explore, create, and share their learning with the community. We are already looking forward to next year!

We’re celebrating an incredible season of robotics achievements across Goochland County Public Schools, and our students have seriously delivered. From innovation and teamwork to top-tier performance on the competition floor, GCPS teams showed what’s possible when creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance come together.
At BES, Zoe Parrish’s teams made a strong showing. Squidi–Alien Jones, a 5th-grade team, earned 1st Place for the Innovation Project, while The Dirty Byrds took home 1st Place for Core Values and advanced all the way to the State Tournament at JMU in January.
At GES, under Amy Potter’s guidance, Archy-OTTER-Gists had an outstanding day—earning 1st Place in Robot Performance and a Judges Award for Thespian, showcasing both technical skill and creativity.
At RES, Sean Dearras’s teams shined at the Charlottesville qualifier. Team 4639, the Chickologists, earned 1st Place Robot Performance (top robot game score!) and 1st Place Innovation Project, sweeping two major awards.
At GMS, the accomplishments reached another level. The Junkyard Pups went undefeated at the Richmond Qualifier, earned a Judges’ Choice Award, advanced as the 2nd seed, and competed in the intense two-day State Regional Tournament. They posted a team match high score of 219 points and earned high praise from competition leadership for their character and sportsmanship—proving once again that great kids come from Goochland. The newly minted Junkyard Strays also represented GMS with pride this season.
We are so proud of our students, coaches, and families for an unforgettable robotics season. Innovation lives here—and this is just the beginning. 💡👏
