Who says math review can’t be a slam dunk? 🏀🔢✨
Ms. Carr’s third graders brought the heat last week for March Mathness! Students teamed up for a high-energy competition to show off everything they’ve learned so far this year.
The play-by-play was simple:
1️⃣ Work together to solve a challenge.
2️⃣ Get it right? Take a shot at the basket! 🏀
3️⃣ Celebrate every win as a team. 🤝
We love seeing our students stay connected through healthy competition and teamwork. From the first whistle to the final buzzer, the focus was on supporting one another—and every single MVP walked away with a medal for their hustle! 🥇

From the classrooms of Byrd Elementary to the halls of Congress! 🦅✨
We are incredibly proud to share that our very own preschool teacher, Bethany Gordon, was invited to participate in a virtual Congressional briefing. She shared her expertise on the "Teaching Mathematics to Young Children" toolkit, representing the high standard of early childhood education we strive for here in Goochland.
When our teachers lead on a national stage, our entire community shines. Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Gordon on this prestigious honor and for her commitment to our youngest scholars! 👏❤️

🚨 GCPS Update 🚨
We have been monitoring the forecast for Monday, and due to the elevated risk of extended severe weather, including widespread damaging winds, strong tornadoes, and large hail, GCPS will be closed tomorrow, March 16.
The uncertain timing of the storms could put our buses and students on the road as conditions worsen, even in the event of an early dismissal. Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to close schools. We recognize the disruption this causes and thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

The magic of learning through play is in full swing at Goochland Elementary! ✨
Our preschool explorers were busy yesterday—from "traveling" to new worlds in the dress-up corner to engineering new routes for their cars. After reading a book about the sky, they even brought the outdoors inside by painting their very own fluffy clouds! We love seeing these early friendships and big imaginations grow!☁️🎨

Music to our ears! 🎤✨
Our Randolph Elementary choral students took center stage at Tuesday's School Board meeting. There’s nothing quite like the sound of our community coming together to support our performers. We are so proud of their talent and the way they represent!

Connecting our classrooms with community wisdom! 💡✨
Our Goochland High School Entrepreneurship students received a masterclass in excellence recently. We were honored to host Ms. LaVerne Johnson, who shared her professional journey as a retired Activities Director for a nursing home and a current beloved substitute.
Ms. Johnson didn't just talk about customer service; she brought it to life with real-world insights and practical tips. Our future CEOs then put those lessons into practice, presenting their own solutions to complex customer service scenarios.
We are so grateful for community members like Ms. Johnson who go above and beyond to inspire our next generation of leaders! 👏❤️

At last night's meeting, the School Board approved a change to the 2025-2026 calendar, designating Tuesday, April 21 as a Student Holiday and Staff Professional Learning Day. This adjustment accommodates the April 21st special election, as two of our schools will be used as polling sites.

Last week, both BES and GES hosted fantastic Literacy Nights across the district, and the turnout was nothing short of inspiring. Seeing our halls filled with families, books, and excitement reminds us why we love what we do.
The energy at BES was electric! Families jumped into a variety of Dr. Seuss themed literacy-based activities designed to make reading an adventure. The highlight of the night? Literacy Bingo! It was a full house, and we loved seeing so many students walk away with brand-new books to add to their home libraries.
Over at GES, things got competitive…in the best way possible! With a March Madness theme, classrooms were transformed into interactive hubs. Each room showcased unique projects that brought their favorite books to life, allowing students to share their hard work and creativity with their families.
A huge thank you to all the teachers, staff, and families who joined us last week to make these events such a success. Our community's commitment to literacy is truly a slam dunk!

🐾❤️ Big hearts and wagging tails! 🐾❤️
Our 3rd graders at Byrd Elementary School just wrapped up an incredible 6-week journey with Goochland Pet Lovers.
Through this partnership, our students didn't just learn about animals—they practiced core virtues like empathy, kindness, and responsibility. The highlight? A special field trip to the Goochland Animal Shelter to see these lessons in action, meet the dedicated staff, and (of course!) visit with some furry friends. 🐶🐱
We are so proud of our young scholars for showing what it means to be a compassionate member of the Goochland community!

Today, volunteers came together for a Generosity Feeds Meal Creation Event, packaging 3,000 meals to help fight child hunger locally.
This impactful event was organized by Goochland High School senior Sophia Weller as part of her senior project, and we are so proud of the leadership and service she demonstrated.
A special thank you to our amazing partners who helped make this event possible:
