When the talent in Goochland is this strong, one winner just isn't enough! 🎨🏆

During the recent Goochland Farmers Market Poster Design Challenge, the submissions from Goochland High School were so impressive that the judges faced a tough decision. In a testament to our students' creativity, two winners were selected—one to represent the Goochland 2026 season and another to lead the way for our neighbors at the Powhatan Farmers Market!

We are so proud of our artists for sweeping the competition:
✨ Evelyn J. – Her design was chosen for the Goochland Farmers Market
✨ Libby O. – Her talent so impressed the region that her work was selected for the Powhatan Farmers Market!

It’s a proud day for our schools and our entire community!

A huge round of applause for our newest scholars! 👏👏

On Tuesday, Goochland Middle School officially inducted 43 impressive 7th graders into the National Junior Honor Society. These students were selected for their dedication to the five pillars of NJHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. 🌟

A special thank you to our current 8th grade NJHS officers for leading the ceremony and to our wonderful PTSA for providing the refreshments. It’s this spirit of mentorship and community support that makes GMS such a special place to grow!

Goochland’s young readers have a new mystery to solve! 🕵️‍♂️📖

A huge thank you to the Goochland Rotary for their annual book donation to every fourth-grade student in Goochland County Public Schools.

This year’s selection—Escape from Monticello by local author Steven K. Smith—was chosen in collaboration between Goochland Rotary, Goochland Historical Society’s 250 American Revolution Commission, and GCPS school librarians. The story follows three kids solving a mystery while learning about Thomas Jefferson, a Goochland native and principal author of the Declaration of Independence.

It’s a wonderful way to celebrate local history while sparking a love of reading.

We love seeing our community partners invest in our students’ curiosity. It’s partnerships like these that make GCPS such a special place to learn and grow! ❤️🏫

Next stop: Middle School! 🚌✨

Our fifth graders from Randolph, Byrd, and Goochland Elementary recently took a giant leap toward their next adventure with a visit to Goochland Middle School! 🏫

From touring the hallways to enjoying a private, high-energy performance by the GMS Band, our students got a true taste of the middle school experience. One of the highlights? A special Q&A session with 8th graders. There is nothing like hearing from those who have walked the path before you to turn nerves into excitement! 🤝❤️

We are so proud of our elementary scholars and can’t wait to see them thrive at GMS.

What a spectacular night for our GCPS family! ❤️ Last Friday, the GHS Auditorium and Gym came alive for our Fine Arts Festival.

From the wonderful choral performances by Randolph, Goochland, and Byrd Elementary Schools to the incredible talents of our GMS and GHS bands and drama, it was a beautiful celebration of student creativity! 🎶✨

Beyond the stage, guests explored a stunning gallery featuring artwork from every school in the division and enjoyed hands-on activities in the cafeteria. A huge thank you to everyone who supported our GHS ceramic students by purchasing a handmade soup bowl!

It’s nights like these that show just how much talent and heart we have in our Goochland community. 🎨🥣

Talk about a powerhouse community! 🤝✨ Earlier this week, 22 dedicated volunteers conducted a staggering 265 mock interviews for our Goochland High School students!

We are so grateful to the leaders from our local and state government—including County Administrator Dr. Jeremy Raley and Delegate May Nivar—alongside private sector partners and our own GCPS leadership. These 22 individuals spent their day giving back, providing our students with the invaluable practice and feedback they need to thrive in the professional world.

It’s this kind of "all-in" support that makes our Goochland community so special. Thank you for investing in the future of our Bulldogs! 🐾❤️

Wellness in full color! 🏃‍♂️💨🎨✨

Last night’s Wellness Night was a blast! Our Goochland families hit the track for the color fun run, tackled the bouncy slide, and enjoyed some delicious eats from the local food trucks.

It was a wonderful evening for our families to connect with incredible community resources and learn more about the support networks available right here in Goochland. 🤝💛

Shoutout to our Sunshine Food Bus for feeding bodies and minds with those free books! 📖🚌 There’s nothing better than seeing our students leave with a smile and a new story to read. It was a beautiful night of movement, connection, and Goochland pride.

Science is a team sport at Goochland Middle School! 🧪💪

Before heading off for spring break, Mr. Govan Baird’s science students took their learning outside for a high-energy lesson on force and distance. The challenge? Testing their strength by pulling a truck! 🚛💨

It wasn't just about the physics; it was about working together to see how much force it really takes to move a massive object. Even Mrs. Borgie couldn't resist joining in on the fun! We love seeing our educators and students connect through hands-on learning that brings the textbook to life.

Check out these future engineers and physicists in action!

🏆 A Championship for the Books! 📚✨

On March 26th, our elementary students proved that reading is the ultimate team sport! We were so proud to host the Reading Olympics, bringing together 160 students from all three of our elementary schools.

These dedicated young readers tackled a list of 31 books, supported by 19 incredible coaches who helped them every step of the way. It was a day filled with connectedness, school/team spirit, and a shared passion for reading.

Huge congratulations to our overall winners: "I Survived The Great Bear Attack" from Randolph Elementary School! 🥇 A special shoutout to their coach, Mrs. Katelin Nolan, for leading them to victory.

Our Goochland Elementary Otters are making a splash at the library! 🦦🌊📚

Our Kindergarteners recently wrapped up four incredible trips to the Goochland Branch Library, made possible by a generous grant from the Goochland Education Foundation (GEF) and the Friends of the Goochland Library.

From diving into STEM challenges and creative stations to enjoying cozy read-alouds, our kindergarteners loved learning alongside our wonderful community librarians. These trips are such a vital part of building "connectedness" between our classrooms and the community from the very start!

A huge thank you to our partners for investing in our Otters and helping them discover the magic of our local library. 🏛️✨

Congratulations to our 2026 Employee of the Year: Mrs. Rosie Holman, Director of Transportation! 🚌✨

From our dedicated bus and car drivers to our expert mechanics and routing specialists, Rosie leads the team that ensures our students start and end their days safely. She was nominated by her GCPS colleagues for her unwavering commitment to our kids and her "above and beyond" heart for service.

We are so lucky to have her leading the way (literally!) in Goochland. Congratulations, Mrs. Holman!

🚀 Our middle schoolers are taking flight! Last week, students in Mr. Beasley’s Technology Foundations class stepped into the world of aeronautics by coding and flying their own drones. This wasn’t just about pushing buttons—our scholars had to master the "why" behind the "how," calculating flight paths while accounting for physics, air resistance, and precise navigation.

It is incredible to see our students collaborating to solve complex problems and cheering each other on as their code came to life! We are so proud of the innovation happening right here in our Goochland community.

Setting the standard for excellence! 🎼✨

Big news from the stage: The Goochland Middle School and Goochland High School Bands have officially earned Superior ratings at assessment! This achievement cements a historic "first" for GCPS, as both GMS and GHS have now reached VMEA Blue Ribbon status in the same year.

This level of success doesn't happen by accident. It’s the result of tireless work from our student musicians and the incredible mentorship of our directors. We want to give a special shout-out to Mr. Jay Sykes (GMS) and Mr. Jacob Gittleman (GHS) for their commitment to our students and for fostering a love of music that unites our schools.

The "Blue Ribbon" distinction requires excellence across the board, and we are so proud of the collaboration between our band and choral departments. It is the combined dedication of Mr. Sykes, Mr. Gittleman, and Ms. Erinne Smitherman that has led us to this prestigious milestone! Goochland is officially a "Blue Ribbon" community! Please join us in celebrating our directors and our dedicated musicians for this historic achievement! 🎷🎤🏆
