Please join us in celebrating the GCPS 2026 Spelling Bee Champion, a talented student from Goochland Middle School! 🏆

Beyond an impressive spelling performance, our champion also shared a powerful message with the School Board and attendees about the importance of reading—and how it opens doors to learning, confidence, and opportunity.

Next up: this outstanding GMS student will move on to the regional spelling bee, proudly representing Goochland County Public Schools!

We’re incredibly proud of him for representing GCPS with skill, poise, and a genuine love of literacy. Congratulations and best of luck at regionals! 🎉👏

❤️ Why Randolph Elementary Wore Red ❤️

Today, students and staff at Randolph Elementary wore red to raise awareness for heart health — a cause that means so much to their school community because of Lilly and other heart warriors at Randolph.

Lilly is one of our very own Heart Warriors. Born with a congenital heart defect, she underwent open-heart surgery before her first birthday. Today, she’s a joyful, energetic 5-year-old, and her strength and resilience inspire us all. While her heart has been repaired, Lilly will continue to be monitored as she grows, reminding us why heart health awareness matters.

During Heart Month and as we approach CHD Awareness Week (February 7–14), wearing red was a simple but powerful way for our Randolph family to show support for Lilly and for children everywhere living with special hearts.

We’re proud of our students and staff for coming together to raise awareness and honor a cause that truly comes from the heart. ❤️

Snow Day Graphic
Goochland County Public Schools will remain CLOSED through Friday, January 30.

The weather conditions that we have faced in public school divisions across central Virginia this week have been extraordinary. Continued frigid temperatures have prevented sufficient clearing of secondary roads to make operations of our schools safe and practical. Our team has been on site at our school locations working to clear sidewalks and lots, but those efforts are complicated by inconsistent road conditions across the region.

After reviewing detailed weather information and consulting with our partners in VDOT, Goochland Sheriff’s Office, and Fire-Rescue, we have made the decision to keep our schools closed through this Friday. In the meantime we will continue to make as much progress as we can at our school locations toward a Monday opening; however, we are monitoring yet another chance of winter weather this weekend. Any final decision for operations on Monday will be communicated to families no later than Sunday afternoon.

We ask that our students continue to engage in learning at home with resources provided last week. Our teachers will communicate directly with students and families with additional information as practical using their normal communication platforms. If you have any questions or do not receive information, please contact your child’s teacher or principal.

Many of you are probably wondering about other designated student holidays and how we may shift those days to regular instructional days. We will review our instructional hours and days and provide notice of any changes to the calendar by close of business this Monday.

This disruption to teaching and learning is a challenge for our entire community, but rest assured we will work diligently and thoughtfully to get back on track. Let’s hope that mother nature cooperates in the weeks ahead.

Thank you all for your support and understanding, and please reach out with any questions.

A special thank you and congratulations to Mr. Hover and Mrs. Yearout-Patton for their dedication to preparing students with essential real-world financial skills.
