We are excited for the great start we have had in 2022-2023, and as we prepare to come back tomorrow after our long weekend, we want to remind our families about our expectations for student conduct and associated policies that guide our work to maintain a safe learning environment that is free from disruption at all times.
Our School Board approved policy JFC-R2 in August with particular attention to issues that distract from the experience of our teachers, students, and staff: fighting, slurs, cell phone use, and tobacco/vaping products. Remember, fighting is not tolerated at any time and will result in a 10 day out of school suspension and referral to law enforcement on the first offense. Conduct violations involving the use of slurs or the use or possession of vape or nicotine products will result in 3 days in school suspension first offense, and cell phone use is prohibited at the middle school and is permitted only during non-instructional time at GHS.
Our students and families have a variety of resources available to them at all times to inform us of issues that may result in conduct violations, and it is essential that our staff is aware of situations so that we can provide support and resources to ideally resolve issues without suspension. However, it is the responsibility of our students and families to communicate with us-please reach out to your principal or counselor, use our anonymous tip line at https://glnd-va.safeschoolsalert.com/ to submit your concern, or contact our central office at 804-556-5630 to have your concern directed appropriately as soon as possible.

New GES Update: Bid packages were sent to our 8 pre-qualified bidders today. Bids will be opened on Nov 17. A School Board work session will be held on Nov 22 & a joint work session with both the School Board & Board of Supervisors will be held Nov 29 to discuss this project.
