Beginning Monday, March 13, families may start the online registration process for kindergarten at goochlandschools.org/student-registration/. Completion of the registration process includes a mandatory in-person screening at your rising kindergartener's school on Thursday, April 13, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Please contact your child's school directly to schedule your screening appointment. WHEN CAN CHILDREN BEGIN KINDERGARTEN? • according to Virginia law, a child must be five years old on or before September 30 of the upcoming school year to enroll in kindergarten WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO ENROLL MY CHILD IN KINDERGARTEN? • a certified birth certificate for the child* • a completed School Entrance Health Form-obtain a form at your school or visit https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/ 710/637892490811170000 • proof of residency (see back for details) * Families unable to provide a certified birth certificate may provide an official affidavit that affirms the child's age, along with an explanation of their inability to present the birth certificate. Proof of residency is necessary for enrollment. It can be a complex process, though we will make every effort to work with families through the process. As a first step, we've developed the flowchart below to help guide the process. Please begin with this initial question: Are you a homeowner or a renter (Box 1), do you reside with another Goochland County resident (Box 2), or are you a Non-Resident (Box 3)? BOX 1: I am the homeowner OR I rent my home. YOU MUST BRING IN TWO OF THE FOLLOWING: • monthly mortgage statement, deed, or sales agreement OR a current signed and bona fide lease • land-line telephone bill • cable/satellite bill • gas bill • electric bill • water bill • driver's license, voter registration, or payroll stul with current address • vehicle registration • tax document (income tax return, W-2 form, receipt for personal property taxes) BOX 2: I live with another Goochland County resident. YOU MUST BRING IN THE FOLLOWING: • notarized multiple family disclosure form (available at your child's school) • two documents that provide proof of homeowner's residency or renter's residency (Please see BOX 1 for details) BOX 3: I am a Non-Resident. YOU MUST BRING IN THE FOLLOWING: • a completed non-resident application (obtain a form at your school or goochlandschools.org/student-forms)

During your 40 minutes with the class, you would read a favorite picture book and do an activity, make a craft, or play a game related to the book.
