The Community Development Department is seeking a motivated high school student to participate in an internship focused on Building Inspections, construction trades, and architectural plan review support. This internship provides hands-on exposure to local government operations, building safety, and development processes while developing valuable workplace and technical skills.
The intern will assist staff with organizing digital records, performing data entry, and managing electronic documents within the departmentโs permit management software system while gaining valuable experience in local government operations.

The Unified Sports program is all about teamwork, friendship, and bringing students together through a shared love of sports. Seeing our Bulldogs push their limits on the track while teammates and fans cheered them on from the stands was a beautiful reminder of how supportive our school community is. ๐พโค๏ธ

Last week, we held our Career and Technical Education (CTE) signing day at Goochland High School, and the energy was incredible! We gathered to celebrate our seniors as they officially committed to their next chapters. From future Marines and dedicated nurses to skilled electricians, our Bulldogs are ready to power our community and our country. ๐ ๏ธ๐ฅ๐บ๐ธ

Congratulations to the Goochland High School MCJROTC Raider Team for an incredible performance at the National Competition in Molena, GA! In just their third year, our Raiders proved that grit and teamwork define the Goochland community by finishing as the National Runner-Up.
Our Mixed Team dominated the field, bringing home:
1st Place: Rope Bridge ๐งโโ๏ธ
2nd Place: Physical Team Test, Ruck Relay, and Cross Country Rescue ๐โโ๏ธ

We are bursting with pride for our Junkyard Dogs Robotics team! After an incredible journey competing at the World Championships in Houston, Texas, these brilliant students were officially recognized at our School Board meeting earlier this week.
Finishing 7th in the district out of 117 teams is no small featโitโs a testament to their grit, teamwork, and the incredible support of our Goochland community. Whether it's in the classroom or on the world stage, our students continue to show whatโs possible when we work together!






This incredible group represents nearly one-third of the entire ACA Class of 2026! This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our students, the support of our families, and our strong partnership with Reynolds Community College. ๐คโค๏ธ

Registration is officially open for the 2026 GCPS STEM Camp! We are bringing our communityโs young innovators together for a week of discovery at the Goochland Middle/High School Complex. This year, weโre featuring two incredible programs:
Young Engineers Construction Camp (Current Grades PreK-8): Campers will explore building and design, get an up-close look at real construction vehicles, and even take guided tours of active construction sites! ๐๐๏ธ
FTC Robotics (Current Grades 5-7): A high-energy experience where students design, build, and program custom robots for a fun team competition. Note: Capped at 15 students! ๐ค๐ป

We had an incredible morning at our bi-annual Business and Education Roundtable, hosted by our friends at Luck Stone. This event, led by our Director of Career and Technical Education, Bruce Watson, is all about fostering connectedness between our schools and the local industry leaders who help our students thrive.

It was a night full of pride as we recognized our Teachers of the Year, Rookies of the Year, Team of the Year, and Employee of the Year. We also shared a special "thank you" with our retirees, celebrating the lasting legacy they leave behind in our halls. ๐โจ
The evening was made even more special by our students! ๐ถ Students from Mr. Gittelman's GHS band provided a fantastic soundtrack for the night, and Chef Erlenbachโs talented students prepared and served a delicious meal for our guests. ๐งโ๐ณ๐ฅ Seeing our students use their skills to honor the staff who have guided them throughout the years made the celebration truly full-circle.

Innovation was on full display at last week's Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School (BRVGS) Senior Project Expo! We were so proud to see our 33 Goochland seniors join forces with peers from Fluvanna and Madison Counties to showcase their expertise. ๐ค๐
These scholars went above and beyond, completing:
๐ A comprehensive 10-page research paper.
๐ป A professional project website.
๐ ๏ธ 30 hours of combined professional learning and community service.
Itโs inspiring to see our students give back to the community while preparing for their professional futures. A huge thank you to the evaluators who reviewed their presentations and helped celebrate their hard work!

Last Friday, the Goochland High School stadium was filled with cheers, high-fives, and incredible displays of determination as we hosted students from both Goochland and Powhatan Schools for this year's Little Feet Meet.
From mastering the "weight" lifting station to navigating the foldable tunnels and balancing on the tightrope, our young athletes showed us exactly what it means to be a champion. ๐ It wasnโt just about the activitiesโit was about the community coming together to celebrate every single studentโs success.

Rachel first won the regional contest and has now taken home the top honors for the entire metro area, earning a total of $1,000 in rewards! Her winning design will be used throughout the Richmond region for the next year to help keep our communities safe. โ๏ธ๐ค

Ms. Borsariโs Bio II Genetics class put their skills to the test with agarose gel electrophoresis this week. Students tracked how different dyes migrated toward positive and negative electrodes to solve the mystery of unknown mixtures.

Last week, we gathered for our New Teacher Awards Reception and Mentor Social. At GCPS, we believe that when our teachers are supported, our students thrive. Through our mentorship program, we pair our newest educators with experienced mentors who offer guidance, encouragement, and a friendly face in the hallway.
