Student at G Tech

For more than a year, our school community has been engaged in discussions about the possibility of adopting a balanced instructional calendar designed to provide additional learning opportunities for students, while also allowing for periodic breaks throughout the year to allow both students and staff the opportunity to focus on their health and wellness.

This past fall, our school division conducted multiple public meetings designed to capture feedback about this concept.  Since then our team has reflected on the feedback received from our students, staff, and families and created an improved version of the balanced calendar for your consideration.

Highlights of Version 2.0 of the proposed balanced calendar include:

---IF approved, this calendar would be effective for the 2023-2024 school year, allowing our families and staff ample time to plan for this change
---OPTIONAL intercessions for both students and staff
---Opportunity for 23 additional instructional days
---One week of intersession in October, versus two weeks
---Starting the school year two weeks earlier than our current calendar. This provides for a one-week break in October and two-week break in March/April for those who choose.
---Remote learning day on Election Day in 2023 to allow our schools to be used as polling locations
---Opportunities for professional work days for teachers throughout the year
---Work day for teachers prior to the winter break in 2023

Thank you for taking the time to provide your thoughts about our revised Balanced Instructional Calendar.  The survey provides an anonymous opportunity to share your feedback to help inform a recommendation for the instructional calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.  A DRAFT of Version 2.0 of the 2023-2024 Balanced Calendar is here: https://drive.google.com/file/...

Thank you, again, for taking a few minutes to share your valuable feedback through this BRIEF survey.
