At Goochland County Public Schools (GCPS), keeping our community healthy, happy, and well-fed is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we are thrilled to announce that GCPS has officially been awarded a national Silver 2025 Turnip the Beet Award by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)!
This prestigious recognition celebrates summer meal program sponsors who go above and beyond to serve high-quality, appetizing, and nutritious meals to children when school is out of session.
Making an Impact: The Sunshine Bus in Action
Summer break should be a time for rest, play, and growth—not worry over where the next meal will come from. Thanks to the extraordinary dedication of our Sunshine Bus team, GCPS made sure that wholesome nutrition was always within reach for our students and families last summer.
Here is a look at the incredible impact made in our community:
5,500+ SUN Meals To-Go: Delicious, balanced meals served directly to students throughout the summer months.
3 Tons of Local Produce: Over 6,000 pounds of farm-fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables delivered straight to local families, supporting both our children's health and local agriculture.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community
This award isn't just a win for GCPS—it's a celebration of our whole community coming together. From our hardworking nutrition staff and Sunshine Bus drivers to local growers, volunteers, and supporters, your hard work keeps Goochland vibrant and nourished.
Thank you to everyone who plays a part in keeping our community healthy and fed!
