Rachel Morrison Award

Goochland County Public Schools is thrilled to celebrate Goochland High School’s very own Rachel Morrison, who has been named the National Civics Teacher of the Year for the 2026–2027 school year by the Bill of Rights Institute. Selected through a competitive nationwide search featuring nominations from students, parents, and community members, Morrison was surprised with this prestigious honor and a $5,000 prize during a special celebration at Goochland High School. This national recognition highlights her extraordinary dedication to shaping informed, active, and thoughtful young citizens within our community.

As an 11th-grade U.S. History teacher, Morrison brings the story of America to life through dynamic historical simulations, role-playing, and constructive civil dialogue. In her classroom, students grapple with complex historical topics, examine diverse perspectives, and connect core founding principles to the duties of modern citizenship. Her impact extends well beyond traditional coursework as the founder and director of the GHS Veterans Project, an initiative that connects students with local veterans to preserve their personal stories, host honoring events, and build lasting intergenerational relationships.

We are immensely grateful to have Ms. Morrison as a vital part of our Goochland team. Her unwavering passion for education, commitment to fostering civic responsibility, and deep care for her students elevate our entire district every single day. Please join all of Goochland County Public Schools in congratulating Ms. Morrison on this remarkable achievement and thanking her for the incredible influence she has on our school community!
