Congratulations to 11th grader, Amaya Wilkerson. Amaya was selected to serve as the student school board representative beginning in January 2024. All of the nominees did a fabulous job during their interviews on Thursday. Our Bulldog Family is excited for Amaya to represent our GCPS student body with the school board.

ACA Orientation

Class of 2027 ACA students and newly admitted Class of 2026 ACA students are cordially invited, along with their parents, to attend ACA Orientation on Wednesday, November 1st, at 6:30 pm. This virtual event will feature an overview of the program, including recent curriculum changes, that will help families plan over the next four years (including summers). Topics covered will include dual enrollment fee projections, course requirements, academic standards, additional supports, and transferability of credits.

We look forward to seeing you online at Google Meet!

AP Exam Registration

Students in Advanced Placement Courses have the option to take the AP exam associated with that course.  Higher scores on the exam can result in possible college credit depending on the college/university. AP exams are held in May; however, the College Board (the governing body of Advanced Placement Courses) requires registration by mid-November. There are fees associated with the test. Tests are $98 dollars per exam. If your student qualifies for free or reduced lunch, the exam price is $63. Payment is made to GHS.  We will then pay the College Board. Paper copies for registration with detailed information will go home with students this week. An online version can be found HERE. Registration forms are due to GHS by Friday,  November 10th! Please contact Dr. Rainbolt (srainbolt@glnd.k12.va.us) with any questions.

Gifted Window Closing

The GCPS gifted window ends on Tuesday, October 31st. Teachers, students, parents, and community members can now complete a referral for gifted evaluation.

Goochland identifies students as gifted in the following areas: English/Language Arts, Math, General Intellectual Aptitude, Fine Arts (including vocal music, instrumental music, dance, acting, technical theatre, and studio arts), and Career and Technical Aptitude.

If there is a student you'd like to refer for evaluation, please contact Mrs. Howell (khowell@glnd.k12.va.us).

Remote Learning Day

Tuesday, November 7th, Election Day, has been identified as a remote learning day for students.  This means students will not come on-site to school on this day.

  • Instruction will be delivered asynchronously.  This means our teachers will provide students with direction before November 7th for continued learning so that they can work independently without the need for support from an adult.  We do not want to create additional stress for our families on this day. The student work will be posted on Canvas.

Report Card Distribution

Students will receive Marking Period 1 report cards from their teachers during Block 1 on Monday, October 30th. Please reach out to your student’s teachers should you have specific questions.

Scholastic Bowl

There will be a meeting on Tuesday, October 31st during Bulldog Block in the cafeteria for anyone interested in participating in the Scholastic Bowl. Scholastic Bowl is a Jeopardy-style competition where GHS students compete against other schools in a quiz bowl-style competition. Please see Mrs. DeRose (mderose@glnd.k12.va.us) for more information.

Seniors Cap and Gown Orders

Attention, Seniors! This Tuesday, October 31st and Wednesday, November 1st our Jostens rep will be taking orders for cap and gown units, as well as other graduation items, during ALL lunches. Please make sure to stop by their table on one of these days to place your order! They accept credit card, cash, or check. If you have specific questions, please contact our senior class sponsor, Ms. Reahard (treahard@glnd.k12.va.us).

Senior Portrait Reminder

There will be a Last Call Senior Portrait Day on Friday, November 3rd. This will be the absolute last chance to get the drape/tux yearbook photo done at GHS. Anyone who has not yet gotten a portrait taken after our October 16th date will be placed on that schedule. Specific time slots will be made known to seniors in the week before November 3rd.

If you plan on taking your portraits with an outside photographer, please plan to have a digital file sent to Mrs. Mistler (kmistler@glnd.k12.va.us) by Friday, December 1st. The requirements for senior portraits taken with other photographers are a blue background; vertical, formal poses; 300 dpi; and wallet-size crop.

Those who have already taken senior portraits need to select their yearbook pose! Log in to your account on Lifetouch to select which formal pose you’d like to appear in the yearbook! If you don’t do this by December 1st, then the yearbook staff will do it for you!

Sense of Belonging Survey

Linked here, please find a preview copy of the GCPS Sense of Belonging and Inclusion Survey that will be administered during school hours to students at GHS in grades 9-12 on November 6th in Block 2. The purpose of the survey is to provide input on how GCPS is doing towards meeting our annual School Board Equity Goals established per policy JFHB/GBAA so that we can create an even better experience for all of our students. Any parent wishing to opt their child out of taking this survey may do so by emailing Catherine Richards, GHS Survey Coordinator, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us

The feedback from this survey is extremely valuable as we continually work to provide our students with the best experience possible. Thank you.
